20. WHITE HOUSE BLUES BY CHARLIE POOLE AND THE NORTH CAROLINA RAMBLERS, 1926

REMIX: ANDREW JEFFREY WRIGHT, WHITE HOUSE BLUES, 2007

Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers were one of the most popular string bands of the 1920s. This is one of several president assassination ballads, about William McKinlay who was shot at close range by a young anarchist Leon Czolgosz. Andrew Jeffrey Wright has made a humorous drawing of a larger than life Charlie Poole figure (as musical note) safeguarding the White House with a key and his banjo.

Andrew Jeffrey Wright is a founding member of Space1026, a creative arts community and gallery in Philadelphia. His many collaborations and publications include works for Outerspace Hillbilly, Morning Wood, Kramer's Ergot 6 and Toy Machine Skateboards.
