81. K.C.MOAN BY MEMPHIS JUG BAND, 1929
REMIX: KYLE TOMZO (FEATHERS), K.C.MOAN, 2007
The Memphis Jug Band is one of the most historically important jug
bands. They were the main performers of the extremely popular Memphis
style of the 1920s. This may have been a railroad work song and is
about the pace and movement of a train, which sounds like “she
got a heavy load”. Tomzo’s intricate drawing shows a train
running vertically up the page. The train tracks are a recurring motif
in the work crossing the page and in the background a graveyard looms.
Kyle Tomzo is a member of the US band Feathers. See selection 79. |
