Hisham Bharoocha, Le Vieux Soulard et Sa Femme, 2007

68. LE VIEUX SOULARD ET SA FEMME BY CLEMO BREAUX AND JOSEPH FALCON, 1928

REMIX: HISHAM BHAROOCHA, LE VIEUX SOULARD ET SA FEMME, 2007

This song by popular Cajun musical couple Breaux and Falcon can be translated as ‘The Old Drunkard and His Wife’. Bharoocha’s visual work is constructed in a similar way to his music, it is pattern based with psychedelic influences. This collage includes elements from the natural world with a female portrait communicating a strong sense of joy and beauty. His work often recycles images from magazine and books, showing how the daily information we absorb is transformed in our subconscious.

Hisham Bharoocha is an artist and musician based in Brooklyn, New York. He was a member of both Lightning Bolt and Black Dice and now plays solo under the name Soft Circle and with his band Pixeltan. He has been included in shows at Deitch Projects and John Connelly Presents in New York and has just had a solo exhibition at De Vleeshal, Middelburg, the Netherlands.
