JOHN THE REVELATOR BY BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON, 1930
REMIX: JESSE BRANSFORD, THE SEVEN SEALS (JOHN THE REVELATOR), 2007
Bransford explains his approach: "Taking cues from representations
of the Book of The Revelation of St. John The Divine I chose two images
common in these visualizations, the seven stars representing the revelation
of the seven seals/agents of the apocalypse and the sword, representing
the Word of God made manifest. Arraying the stars in a geometric pattern,
a new relation between them can be felt, a relation I sought to highlight
by placing seals of the seven planetary forces from the occult tradition
over the geometric pattern derived. This new relation for me brings
some of the ideas of interest to Smith and his contemporaries in ‘folk
music’ to light."
Jesse Bransford is a New York based artist. He lives in Brooklyn and
works in Queens.
