Peter J Evans, Georgian Stomp, 2007

32. GEORGIAN STOMP BY ANDREW AND JIM BAXTER, 1929

REMIX: PETER J EVANS, GEORGIAN STOMP, 2007

Evans’ response has taken the core element of the song, its wave form, and created a new abstract landscape using the colours of the three elements of the Anthology: air, fire and water. These elements represent Harry Smith’s own unusual cosmology, each colour represents the same wave form, this repetition and merging of forms alludes to an alchemical process. The number three also relates to the number of voices singing this stomp.

Peter J Evans is fascinated by systems and patterns and his work explores how such structures can be found even in supposed chaos. He has exhibited his work internationally and his first solo exhibition opens at Spacex Gallery, Exeter in May 2007.
