DRUNKARD’S SPECIAL BY COLEY JONES, 1929 REMIX: VERNON & BURNS, INTERWOVEN: A MEDICINE SHOW POSTER, 2007 Coley Jones performed as part of medicine shows in the early part of the twentieth century. Vernon & Burns have responded to the Anthology by making a fictional poster for a medicine show featuring the Dallas String Band alongside a variety of magicians, minstrels and pep steppers. Medicine shows were US travelling teams peddling high alcohol content miracle medications and elixir between entertainment acts. Vernon & Burns are Glasgow based sound artist Mark Vernon and Barry Burns. In 2005 they released their first LP ‘the tune the old cow died of’ on Gagarin Records, they have also recorded and performed as Boy Band Tax Returns. |
