Zoe Irvine, Mountaineer's Courtship, 2007

64.THS MOUNTAINEER’S COURTSHIP BY MR AND MRS ERNEST V. STONEMAN, 1926

REMIX: ZOE IRVINE, MOUNTAINEER’S COURTSHIP, 2007

Stoneman said, "Any song with a story will go to the people's hearts because they love stories. They love stories of tragedy, a wreck or something." Irvine’s work takes the form of two gramophone record labels, bearing photographic imagery. They are a re-interpretation of the conversation that takes place in ‘The Mountaineers Courtship’. In this version the courtship is between neighbours, one a collector of gramophone records and the other a mountain biker. The viewer sees the budding romance through the door spy-holes looking across the close. The work was made with the help of Robert Young.
